How to organize your photo collection

If you’re one of those people who have photos stored in a dozen or so shoeboxes, it’s time to get them organized. Here are some tips to help you get started:

  1. Decide what digital format you want to use for your photos. There are many different options available, including JPEG, TIFF, and RAW. Choose the format that best suits your needs.
  2. Get a good photo scanning software program. This will make it much easier to scan your photos and convert them to the digital format of your choice.
  3. Set up a filing system that makes sense to you. You can organize your photos by date, by subject, or by any other system that works for you.
  4. Start scanning your photos! This is the most time-consuming part of the process, but it’s also the most important. Be sure to scan each photo at a high resolution so you can preserve all the details.
  5. Once all your photos are scanned, backing them up is crucial. Store them on an external hard drive, on CDs or DVDs, or in the cloud. This way you’ll be sure to never lose them
